I am broadly interested in social behavior in birds and other animals. In particular, I am interested in the complex communication systems of vocal-learning species such as parrots, songbirds, and cetaceans. Co-advised by Professors Robert Dudley and Rauri Bowie, I am currently studying the effects of isolation and population decline on the cultural evolution of parrot vocalizations. I am also very interested in applying the methodologies of human linguistics to animal communication systems in conjunction with novel machine learning technology.
